Made in the Image of our Creator God

One of the many doors I walked thru with Arlen today on our 'errand' run to Santa Elena was a little shop with the name, "DIPSA" over the door.

We were searching for paint for our stair railing and our normal paint store sent us to this 'specialty' store.

The guy who attended to us was not much more than 20 years of age. He brought out two very used color packets for us to flip thru and choose our color. We took a few minutes. We were looking for an 'antique' dark bronze sort of color, so we had to check all the samples in the sun to see their true colors. We stewed a bit, not sure that they had the option that we were looking for. Then, finally, we found something we liked. He told us that it would take about 30 minutes cuz he was going to have to go back into the warehouse to get what he needed. So we went and did a couple other things and came back.

When we walked back into the shop a 1/2 hour later, there was an assortment of open cans of paint on the counter -- burnt orange, deep red, silver, white, and I think there was a black or deep blue there as well. All were without their lids, and as we walked in, the young guy behind the counter grabbed the burned orange can and poured a bit of it into 'our' 1/2 gallon. Then he added a bit of the red, cleaning the lip of the can with his finger. He stirred it a bit, then did another sample on his putty knife and took it and the sample we had picked out into the sunlight to check the tones!

Earlier in the day, when we went to the regular paint store, we picked out a couple colors -- three of which needed to be mixed. They took the samples, read the codes, and went to the back where they entered the codes into the computerized mixer, which efficiently produced the colors we wanted, without thought as to whether the shade was 'just what we wanted' or not.

This guy was different. He was performing an amazing art right before our eyes. Arlen dipped his finger in the paint and did a swipe on a small sample piece of iron we had brought with us. It was perfect. I had not dreamed of finding just the right color, but, by golly, he did it!

As we drove away, the drying paint on our sample piece continued to be just what I was looking for. And we marveled at the excellence with which that young man performed his 'art'.

Every man is created in the image of God... to be a reflection of His love, joy, peace, etc., etc. But also to be a reflection of His creativity, innovation, etc., etc. What a beautiful expression of creativity we were able to experience today!

  1. That is so amazing that he was able to do that. There are so many skills we don't develop when we are so automated! What a neat story.
